Keynote Address: Simon Winchester
The Man Who Loved China

Simon Winchester is a journalist, broadcaster and bestselling author of 20 books including the New York Times bestseller, The Man Who Loved China.
Winchester’s lecture is centered on the life of an eccentric English chemist, Joseph Needham (1900-1995), who became one of the most knowledgeable students of China in all history.

The second day of the symposium includes lectures exploring the afterlife as it is perceived by cultures from around the world and through the ages. Join our panel of experts and reflect on how the afterlife is understood by the living, how we prepare for the afterlife and how the living develop a relationship with the afterlife. Symposium includes a continental breakfast, lunch and optional buffet dinner.

The third day of the symposium explores the life and times of China’s First Emperor with four internationally recognized experts. The day includes a continental breakfast, lunch and an optional Afternoon Tea at c5.
