Storage Areas in the Longhouse
Take a look at the south end of the longhouse. Along the outside of the longhouse (perimeter), you will notice a row of posts forming a wall. Once you pass this wall, there is another wall coming from both side walls. This is called a baffle. There are gaps in the baffle to allow for entrance into the house.
The area between the baffle and the inside south wall of the longhouse is a storage area.

There are many archaeological examples of storage areas at the ends of longhouses. Storage areas are partioned off with walls. Doors allow for movement between areas.
Take a look at the northern-most and southern-most ends of the house. Can you see the rows of posts that would have made the walls between the storage areas and the inside of the house?
