Boreal Barrens Species at Risk

Also known as the Hudson Bay Lowlands, this forest region is dominated by swamps and muskeg which provide important habitat for waterbirds.

There are a total of 11 species officially designated as being at risk in this region.

  • 2 species are endangered and close to disappearing from Ontario.
  • 2 species are threatened indicating risk of becoming endangered.
  • 7 species are of special concern who's characteristics make them sensitive to human activities or natural events.
