Barn Swallow
Barn Swallow - Hirundo rustica
Appearance: Sparrow-sized blue bird with orange front , narrow pointed wings and deeply forked tail.
Behaviour: Fast, swooping flight. Catches insects in flight, and spends much of its time in the air. Builds a mud nest, usually on the sides of buildings. Song is long and twittering.
Habitats: Open habitat, especially fields and agricultural land and around buildings near water.

Belted Kingfisher
Belted Kingfisher - Ceryle alcyon
Appearance: Robin-sized chunky blue and white bird with a large head crest, short tail and sturdy sharp black beak. Male has a blue band across the breast, female has a brown band across the belly and the blue breast band.
Behaviour: Perches above water to spot prey and then dives into the water to catch it in its beak. Nests in eroded stream banks and cliffs. Call is a loud rattling and is usually the first clue to its presence.
Habitats: Freshwater, especially forested lakes and rivers.

Black-capped Chickadee
Black-capped Chickadee - Parus atricapillus
Appearance: Sparrow-sized bird with a round oversized head, black cap and chin, grey back and relatively long tail.
Behaviour: Inquisitive and bold. Will hang upside down to feed on branches. Call is a loud, distinctive "chicka dee-dee-dee".
Habitats: Forest, especially deciduous and mixed woods, but also parkland and urban gardens. Visits bird bird feeders.
