Purple Finch
Purple Finch - Carpodacus purpureus
Appearance: Sparrow-sized brown bird with short, cone-shaped beak. Male is reddish purple on head and shoulders, female is brown with streaked front and has a white stripe behind the eye.
Behaviour: Seed eater.
Habitats: Forest, especially conifer forest and Christmas tree plantations.

Purple Martin
Purple Martin - Progne subis
Appearance: Robin-sized dark blue and brown bird with long, narrow, pointed wings and forked tail. Short, wide beak. Up close, iridescent blue on wings; female is brown has a paler front than the male.
Behaviour: Fast, swooping flight. Catches insects in flight, and spends much of its time in the air. Gregarious, birds will perch together on wires. Song is a liquid twitter. Nests in groups. Uses nestboxes.
Habitats: Open habitat, farms, parks, near water.

Red-eyed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo - Vireo olivaceus
Appearance: Sparrow-sized plain green and white bird with an eye-stripe, grey cap and red eye. Up close, the beak is thick and has a small hook at the end.
Behaviour: Picks insects from leaves high in the tree canopy. Most often heard rather than seen, it is a persistent singer. Song is short Robin-like melody.
Habitats: Forest, especially deciduous forests and woodlots.
