Hermit Thrush
Hermit Thrush - Catharus guttatus
Appearance: Robin-sized olive-brown and white bird with spotted front. Up close, a red tail which is brighter than the rest of the body.
Behaviour: Hops along the ground when feeding. Unobtrusive and usually seen alone. Beautiful, melodious song.
Habitats: Forest, especially mixed and conifer forests.

Herring Gull
Herring Gull - Larus argentatus
Appearance: Crow-sized white bird with webbed feet, narrow, pointed wings and a hooked beak. Adult is white with grey wings; immature is brown for several years. Up close, the legs are pink, not yellow as in the similar Ring-billed Gull, and a red spot on the lower beak.
Behaviour: Scavenger. Will land on water and pick up food. Bold and aggressive.
Habitats: Freshwater, especially lakes, and urban areas on large lakes.

Horned Lark
Horned Lark - Eremophila alpestris
Appearance: Sparrow-sized brown bird with slender beak. Black band on the breast. Up close, adult has black and yellow stripes on the head.
Behaviour: Feeds on the ground, usually walking. Sings in flight high above ground.
Habitats: Open habitat, especially roadsides, grassland, old fields and ploughed fields.
