Mallard
Mallard - Anas platyrhynchos
Appearance: Male has a shiny green head, white collar and a dark brown front, female is mottled brown. Both sexes have a blue wing patch with white borders.
Behaviour: Feeds by tipping up in shallow water and pulling food off weeds.
Habitats: Freshwater, especially wetlands, ponds and lakes, large rivers, urban parks.

Mourning Dove
Mourning Dove - Zenaida macroura
Appearance: Robin-sized slender pigeon, a fragile-looking bird with short legs and long pointed wings and tail. Up close, olive back and pink-brown head and front.
Behaviour: Can be approached closely when feeding on the ground. In flight, the wings "whistle". Bobs head when walking. Call is plaintive and sounds mournful.
Habitats: Forest and urban. Visits bird feeders.

Northern Cardinal
Northern Cardinal - Cardinalis cardinalis
Appearance: Robin-sized red bird with a strong cone-shaped beak and a crest. Male is bright red, female is browner. Up close, male has a black throat.
Behaviour: Seed eater. Conspicuous, but shy. Flight is undulating. Song is a series of loud whistles.
Habitats: Forest, especially forest edge, parks, wooded backyards. Visits bird feeders.
