House Sparrow
House Sparrow - Passer domesticus
Appearance: Brown bird with a cone-shaped beak. Male has a chestnut back, pale grey front and a black throat, female is paler and does not have a black throat.
Behaviour: Seed eater. Builds untidy nests in buildings, especially under eaves. Noisy and gregarious. Call is a "chirp".
Habitats: Urban, including farmyards. Visits bird feeders.

House Wren
House Wren - Troglodytes aedon
Appearance: Sparrow-sized brown bird with short, narrow tail which is usually held erect. Up close, a long slim beak and fine streaking on the wings and belly.
Behaviour: Very active insect feeder, but usually concealed in vegetation and makes short flights between cover. Song is loud and bubbly. Will use nestboxes.
Habitats: Forest, especially shrubs and thickets near buildings.

Killdeer
Killdeer - Charadrius vociferus
Appearance: Robin-sized brown and white shorebird with plump body, short neck and slim beak. Short tail is held horizontal, not drooping. Up close, two black breast bands.
Behaviour: Active feeder, walking or running on grassland. Feigns injury by flopping on the ground to distract intruders from the nest. Call is loud and sounds like "kill-deer" (hence name).
Habitats: Open habitat, especially roadsides and fields, often far from water.
