Creating, Curating, and Consuming Digital Art
The Royal Ontario Museum’s Institute for Contemporary Culture (ICC) and The New York Digital Salon (NYDS) present an Evening of Digital Art, a panel discussion on the emerging issues in creating, curating, and consuming digital art. ICC chair Mark Kingwell will be joined by NYDS's assistant director Renee Schacht, New York artist GH Hovagimyan, and Toronto artists Madga Wojtyra and Thierry Loa "Deekons." Examples of print, video, and interactive works of digital art from the New York Digital Salon and Toronto's Pixel Gallery will be on display in the theatre and other sites at the ROM. The Evening of Digital Art begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 7th, 2004 in Theatre ROM. Admission is free.

New York Digital Salon, a non-profit new media art organization founded in 1993, is dedicated to enhancing the understanding and appreciation of new media art and its history through a Web site, public lectures, panel discussions, computer animation screenings, and exhibitions. Currently collaborating with the Schick Art Gallery at Skidmore College, the NYDS is presenting Digital Selections, a new media art exhibition featuring digital prints, interactive installations, computer animation and sound art. Toronto Digital Art Association (TDAA) and Pixel Gallery were founded as a non-profit network for digital artists and enthusiasts to share ideas, opinions, and experiences. They endeavour to cultivate a greater understanding and relationship between digital media, technology, applied arts, and visual graphics in the broadest sense. Recognizing the growing interest and importance of technology, art, and culture, Pixel Gallery and TDAA strives to collaborate with local and international organizations to offer a setting to experience and interact with digitally based art. The Institute for Contemporary Culture is a unique entity within the ROM that explores all aspects of contemporary thought, society and visual culture, by means of exhibitions, discussions, symposia and programs.
