THE ROLE OF IVORY | HOW THE INUIT HAVE USED IVORY

Ice Cleats
Made of ivory and skin

Cleats secured to the bottom of boots help prevent slipping on sea ice or frozen snow.
The cleats seen here represent two styles — with and without a central slot. Both styles are secured to the foot with skin thongs that pass through pairs of holes at the ends of the cleats.
