THE NARWHAL & THE WALRUS
THE ORIGINS OF IVORY

Narwhal Sculpture, 997.22.25.1-2 "A long, long time ago a boy was mistreated by his mother. In taking revenge the boy wrapped his harpoon line around his mother asking her to hold firm when a white whale was harpooned. The boy harpooned a huge whale and with his mother attached by the harpoon line he tossed her into the water. The whale dragged her out to sea and in time she transformed into a narwhal."
