Pronged Spear
and Throwing Board

The pronged spear was primarily a weapon for waterfowl and sea birds. To throw the spear, the butt end was placed along the channel of a throwing board and held in place by the thumb. The throwing board acts as an extension of the arm which increases the force being applied. The spear could be accurately thrown more than 30 metres (nearly 100 feet).
