Lance

In hunting sea mammals the harpoon and lance functioned together: the harpoon caught the prey, but the lance was used to complete the kill. After a successful hunt the animals were towed to shore.

Different from the harpoon with its detachable head, the lance head is secured to the shaft. It is positioned on the back of the kayak and held in place with skin straps.
