The Polar Bear
Polar Bear Sculpture, 997.22.1 The polar bear is valued for its skin and meat. The guard hairs have a central core that traps air and thus provide excellent insulation. Polar bear skins are often used for pants and mitts; young bearskins are preferred as skins from older bears tend to be too stiff for comfort.

Sculpture made of ivory
From Pangnirtung, Baffin Island
Dating to 1933-1942
