DOMESTIC LIFE: CLOTHING
DOMESTIC LIFETHE IGLU  | CLOTHING
  Sealskin | Caribou Skin
Parka | Pants

In winter, the inner caribou-skin parka was worn with the fur facing the body — beneath an outer parka with the fur facing out. In summer, the inner parka was worn alone. In cold and wet conditions, the sealskin parka was worn overtop for added warmth.

The parkas show the two layers together. The air trapped between the two layers acts as insulation. In addition to the layering of clothing, each caribou hair is hollow and the air inside increases the heat-retaining qualities of the caribou skin.
