Following his initial one year posting in Pangnirtung, Bildfell returned to the Canadian Prairies and set up a medical practice in Wynyard, Saskatchewan.

An opportunity to return north came in the summer of 1940 when his wife, Muriel, showed him a newspaper report that the Canadian government was unable to fill the medical post in Pangnirtung.

Within a week, the Bildfells with their young son were well into preparations for their move north, and the beginning of two enjoyable years.
