DR. JON BILDFELLWORKING IN PANGNIRTUNG | THE BILDFELL FAMILY | THE BILDFELL COLLECTION
Throughout the two periods of his Arctic residency, Bildfell traded food, cartridges, and coal oil for small ivory sculptures carved by
the Inuit specifically for the purpose of trade. When he departed the Arctic in 1942, he left with a collection of 210 sculptures and artifacts.
His collection has now been recognized by the Canadian government as a
Canadian national treasure.
