Bird Representations

Bird pendants are commonly found on Thule archaeological sites. The purpose of these pendants is not known; however, to the Inuit, the bird is a symbol of long life, and these pendants may embody that significance. As amulets, perhaps worn on clothing, they would endow the wearer with special qualities. Bird figures were also used as pieces in a game of dice.
