Joshua Neustein: Margins
Contemporary art unraveling the Dead Sea Scrolls
Until March 28, 2010

Concurrent with Dead Sea Scrolls: Words that Changed the World, Margins is a newly commissioned contemporary artwork by artist Joshua Neustein that explores themes and ideas suggested by the scrolls. This installation shapes a dialogue with the Scrolls' historical, religious and cultural traditions.  Presented by the ICC and the Koffler Gallery of the Koffler Centre of the Arts.

Hamra Abbas: Read
Until March 28, 2010


The ICC presents another contemporary artist's response to the Dead Sea Scrolls, to provide a multi-faith perspective on their continued resonance today. In Read, rising young artist Hamra Abbas has created a dramatic hanging sculpture with imbedded speakers playing sounds of Pakistani children reciting lessons in a madrassah (an Islamic religious school).

“the heart that has no love/pain/generosity is not a heart”

A contemporary art installation in the form of an archive produced by Vancouver-based media artist Jayce Salloum and Afghan-Hazara artist Khadim Ali. Comprised of photographs, video, and miniature paintings, the exhibit examines the destruction of the colossal 5th century Buddhas of the Bamiyan Valley in Central Afghanistan by the Taliban in March, 2001. Presented by the Institute for Contemporary Culture in collaboration with SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre) and the Images Festival.
