Mark Osbaldeston, author of Unbuilt Toronto 2: More of the City that Might Have Been will present an entertaining lecturing exploring the ideas included in his most recent book. Discover some of Toronto's most fascinating planning, transit and architectural "what-ifs," such as architect Daniel Burnham's grand plans for Eaton's in 1912, a magnetically levitated light rail transit system that the provincial government actually started to build in the 1970s, and how Toronto would be different today if it had hosted the Olympics in 1996.
iPad Drawing Class

Bring your iPad with the Brushes application loaded on your device to the ROM and learn ways David Hockney created his works featured in the Fresh Flowers exhibition. Instructor Jerrem Lynch of the Toronto School of Art will demonstrate the Brushes application and help participants develop their own drawing skills with this new and exciting medium. Space is limited.
Panel Discussion: The Social, Mobile, New Museum- Harnessing New Technologies in the Museum World

This panel, made up of both international museum and new media experts, will explore the new standard of technology in museums. Questions including "what does the museum look like in ten years?" and "how can the museum implement new media effectively and in a budget-friendly way?" will be addressed during the panel.

One of the world's greatest living artists is joined on stage at the ROM for an intimate discussion with Fresh Flowers curator Charlie Scheips. A Q&A session will follow the talk.

This year's exclusive fundraising event celebrates the ICC exhibition David Hockney's Fresh Flowers. Hosted by the Board of the ICC, the 4th annual event will bring artist David Hockney and guests together for dinner in the ROM's c5 Restaurant Lounge. The evening will also include priority seating for an on-stage interview between Hockney and Fresh Flowers curator Charlie Scheips, as well as a private exhibition viewing.

Filmed over three years, this documentary is an unprecedented record of a major artist at work. Preceding his work with the iPad, this documentary captures David Hockney's return from California to paint his native Yorkshire, through the seasons and in all weather. It tells the story of a homecoming and gives a revealing portrait of what inspires and motivates one of today's greatest living artists. Audience members will be treated to a 'sneak peek' of David Hockney's fresh flowers following the screening. Please note – this film contains mature subject matter.

The ICC teams up with ToRo Arts Group, a not-for-profit organization purposed on the promotion of Romanian culture in Toronto, to present the film ‘La nouvelle vague roumain’,by Marius Doicov and Vincent Guyottot followed by a panel discussion on the much-discussed New Wave of Romanian Cinema and its aesthetic ways of addressing the ‘messiness of Romanian life, its cruelty, bare-bones richness and overwhelming humour.’

A talk with the artists behind the exhibition Bamiyan (the heart that has no love/pain/generosity is not a heart) on display at the ROM from April 3 to May 2, 2010. Vancouver-based media artist Jayce Salloum and Australia based Afghan-Hazara artist Khadim Ali discuss their collaborative contemporary art installation examining the destruction of the colossal 5th century Buddhas of the Bamiyan Valley in Central Afghanistan by the Taliban in March, 2001.
Hamra Abbas: An Intimate Artist's Talk

A lively talk with the artist behind the work Read, a multi-media installation on display at the ROM until March 28. Read is a suspended labyrinth-like wooden structure, concealing speakers playing the sound of children reciting the Qur’an as they memorize its verses. Hamra Abbas was born in Kuwait in 1976, and now lives and works between Boston and Islamabad, Pakistan. Presented by the ICC, in association with Friends of South Asia and SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre).
