De 2000 à 2008, la population de bécasseaux maubèches a chuté : elle est passée de 52 000 à 15 000. Allan Baker du Musée royal de l'Ontario a consacré les 15 dernières années au rétablissement de l'espèce.

Birds mistake the reflection in buildings for habitat during the day, and are attracted to light at night - both situations cause an estimated 1 million bird deaths per year in Toronto alone.
