The discovery of diamonds in the 1990’s marked a beginning for Canada’s first diamond mine, the Ekati Diamond Mine, located in the Northwest Territories.  It also marked the beginning of the, still relatively young, diamond mining industry in Canada.

Iconic: Light of the Desert

The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto is home the world's largest faceted cerussite, an extremely fragile mineral that is almost impossible to cut. Learn why this cerussite, installed in the Gallery of Gems and Gold in the Teck Suite of Galleries: Earth's Treasures, is nicknamed Light of the Desert and has been named one of the ROM's iconic treasures.
