You mention Currelly's being interested in acquiring a quantity of objects and not just the most beautiful. Very commendable of him. In this regard, as a museum builder he is the direct opposite of Thomas Hoving of the Metropolitan Museum in New York who spent his time 'de-acquisitioning' (his term) objects he did not deem beautiful and thus rid the Met of a large number of study objects. He did of course keep the finest but they are often not typical.
