ROM stairs, Queen’s Park
This audio art installation invites participants to sit down, put on headphones and listen to an audio track that explores ancient Judaic, Persian, and Babylonian feminist history and the contemporary significance of that history.
On the audio track, a diverse group of women question the disappearance of Queen Vashti from The Book of Esther. The installation is located at the former main entrance to the ROM, which is significant in itself and provides context to audio loop playing.
This project was created by Evan Tapper. The artist would like to thank all the women who participated in the project. Thanks also to the Institute for Contemporary Culture, Royal Ontario Museum for their tremendous assistance. This project was made possible through a Toronto Jewish Visual Arts Award from the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
