Dolls, kites, cards, spinning tops, puzzles, and board games are just some of the many amusements that have entertained Chinese adults and children for two thousand years. Playful Pursuits presents approximately 140 artifacts, including many on display for the first time, which illustrate toy-makers’ creativity and skill in fashioning charming and innovative playthings. This wide-ranging exhibition mirrors China’s economic, technological and cultural evolution and showcases the diversity and richness of this multifaceted nation.
