Fryderyk Chopin's innovative and influential piano works are loved worldwide today for their poetic, melodic and evocative qualities. Commemorating the bicentennial of his birth, Fryderyk Chopin & the Romantic Piano explores the passionate life and the legacy of this 19th century Polish virtuoso and composer, and the Romantic Age of music in which he played a pivotal role.
The exhibition includes a Pleyel Grand Piano (Chopin's instrument of choice) and other musical instruments, original scores, costumes and decorative arts of the period. It delves into Chopin’s public and personal worlds to contextualize the contributions of this musical genius to an era that helped shape European history.
