Journey to the afterlife through the mystical Book of the Dead of Amen-em-hat. Books of the Dead are funerary manuscripts created by Ancient Egyptians during their lifetime, containing instructions to help the deceased in the afterlife. Learn about the haunting “weighing of the heart” judgment ceremony, the mysterious gods Amen-em-hat would meet, and the magic spells that would keep his soul safe as he journeyed through the Underworld.

A rare opportunity to see one of the most significant Books of the Dead anywhere in the world.  Out of the vaults for a limited time.

Bringing the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead to Life

   

Travel to Egypt, the land where the Book of the Dead of Amen-em-hat was written over 2,300 years ago and uncover the story of this mystical scroll. Acquired in the early 20th century in Egypt, most of this beautiful papyrus scroll has remained hidden in the Museum's vaults until now.
