In the 1960s my father was seconded to the ROM from the Toronto Board of Education and the immediate effect of this career move for me was access to the Royal Ontario Museum after closing hours....
1933 - 1968
ROM was one of my favorite haunts growing up in the '60's. Dad was executive manager of the Park Plaza Hotel across the street, and we lived on the 11th floor of the south wing.
Admission fees rise to 25c. A new exhibition hall opens with “Impact”
Louise Hawley Stone founds the Bishop White Committee, which still exists. It was the prototype for "Friends of ...." various departments.
The opening gala for the 1959 exhibition "Masks: the Many Faces of Man" was great fun.
