A Great Exhibition

Era:

  • 1968 - 1982
  • Public line-up down Queen's Park Ave. to see the new Chinese exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

    Our first blockbuster exhibition.

Exhibition of the Archaeological Finds of the People’s Republic of China is the most successful and profitable show in the Museum’s history. In three months, 435,000 people saw it, and $600,000 was set aside to fund future exhibitions. It also pointed up the crowding and lack of conservation standards, such as air conditioning.

My father taking me out of school for a day when I was 8 to see this. I remember the line up around the block, and a sarcophagus made of gold.
