My Second Home
- 2000 - 2010
I've been lucky enough to experience the ROM as a visitor, volunteer and staff member over the last almost 30 years of my life.
I would completely credit the ROM with two huge things in my life - helping me figure out what I actually want to do with my life and helping to keep me calm at tough times.
When I started volunteering in 2008 in the Discovery Gallery - then soon after interning and volunteering in Hands-On Biodiversity, and the Education Department - I had no idea how my eyes would be opened up to working with children and in museum educational programs.
Now, I'm a supply teacher and am so thankful to have had so many opportunities working as a museum educator. None of this would ever have been possible without the ROM - all of the amazing, fun, wonderful experiences I had, as well as the kindness of the many other staff and volunteers I met, helped me through some of the most difficult times in my life.
I always knew - and still know - if I was ever stressed or upset or having a rough time in life, I could always stop by the ROM - my second home - and it'd always keep me calm and cheer me up. Thank you ROM! Here's to 100+ more years of inspiration!
