Today is the last day of the LEGO Sphinx build at the ROM. There has been a lot of progress and it’s been great to have seen so many of you out to see the Sphinx near completion, and to join in on the other LEGO activities on this weekend.
Day 3, 10am - The LEGO Sphinx is almost done
I’ve just celebrated my one year anniversary here at the ROM. It’s been a fantastic year for me and the Museum, as we’ve spent much of the time working together on our plans for the future. I’ve decided to start my second year with some very exciting news that kickstarts the countdown to the ROM’s centenary in 2014!
Submitted by Liz Muir, volunteer with the Friends of Canadian Collections (FCC).
Almost 200 years ago, war broke out between the United States and Canada, which was still part of the British Empire at the time. That conflict became know as the War of 1812.
Here at the ROM, a project team is hard at work bringing Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World to life. The exhibition opens November 19, but ROM staff have been immersed in the project for well over a year!
Emilio Genovese, ROM Exhibit Designer, is a key member of the project team. Today he is working with an artist to finalize large graphic murals that will appear throughout the exhibition. We asked him to answer a few questions about the murals and tell us a little more about his role on the exhibition project team.
Keeps your eyes here. At 7 pm we’ll be chatting with David Hockney about his drawings on the iPhone and iPad.

A big apology to everyone who was following our Live Blog of David Hockney in conversation iwth Charlie Scheips. We experienced some technical difficulties that evening, but are back up and running!
We did catch the whole conversation on tape and will make it up to you with a Vlog of everything you missed. Coming soon!
I love sharing the cool secrets of the ROM with visitors, so it really made my day when our Name the Queen Bee Contest winner Kaitlyn visited the ROM with her mom and her brother Kynan (who also happened to be our third place winner). I got to show them around the Keenan Family Gallery of Hands-on Biodiversity and Life in Crisis: Schad Gallery of Biodiversity, as well as introduce them to a few special friends of mine who live behind-the-scenes at the ROM.
