To complement Mesopotamia: Inventing our World, the ROM is also displaying an exhibition that reveals what happened during the looting of Baghdad’s Iraq Museum in April 2003 – an event that shocked the world. Priceless antiquities were stolen or destroyed, devastating one of the world’s most important museums of ancient culture.
This award-winning exhibition was created by Chicago’s Oriental Institute who strives to educate the public on the devastation of Iraq’s cultural heritage. The exhibition debuted at the Oriental Institute in April 2008.
Now, marking the tenth anniversary of the museum’s looting, exhibition content has been updated with recent research and stories of the war’s continued impact on Iraq’s cultural, archaeological and heritage sites. This revised presentation premieres at the ROM.
