Technician - Mammalogy/Ornithology

The Royal Ontario Museum is seeking a Technician- Mammalogy/Ornithology who will assume responsibility for running and organizing the preparation laboratories and supervising and training summer students, contract employees, and volunteers in specimen preparation. The incumbent has responsibility for preparing and identifying specimens of mammals and birds, maintaining computerized records of incoming collections, including frozen tissues. The incumbent will also answer public inquiries and provide tours.

Salary SALARY RANGE: $57,463 - $65,672 per annum


  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in biology OR an acceptable equivalent in education and experience. Previous supervisory experience is an asset 
  • A minimum of five years of directly related experience; previous museum experience preferred 
  • Computer experience, including the use of databases, spreadsheets and word processing 
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication and judgment skills, initiative and reliability 
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision 
  • Valid driver’s license and a valid passport are required for field work 
  • Ability to maintain a range of laboratory equipment 
  • Knowledge of photography is an asset
