Jeanne Beker is one of the most iconic and influential women in the fashion industry, both here in Canada and around the world. She studied acting and began her career in media reporting on the arts for CBC radio in St. John's Newfoundland. In 1979 she launched the groundbreaking show The New Music in Toronto and from 1985 -2012 was the host of Fashion Television that aired in over 100 countries.
Jeanne is the author of 5 books, and the editor-in-chief of FQ Magazine and SIR, from 2003-2009. She is also a style columnist and contributing editor for The Toronto Star and The Kit, a columnist for Metro. Jeanne is also a regular style correspondent for ETALK, CANADA AM and CTV News Channel and currently host of Bell Media’s FashionTelevisionChannel – Canada’s first and only 24-hour channel dedicated to fashion, beauty and design. Further, she is the creative director of an exclusive clothing line available at The Bay, EDIT by Jeanne Beker, and has a collection for The Shoe Company.
Jeanne Beker’s commitment to fashion has been recognized with the Order of Canada in 2013 for her contributions to the fashion industry and for her promotion of Canadian designers.
In 2012 she was given the prestigious Canadian Award of Distinction at the Banff World Media Festival, and also received a Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the Arts & Communications category. Futher awards include an Honorary Doctorate from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax (2013), the Academy Achievement Award for Exceptional Contributions to the Canadian Television Industry from The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and most recently, the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards awarded Jeanne with the CAFA Fashion Vanguard Award for her impressive and dedicated career achievements within the Canadian fashion industry.
