Description
Whether escaping from predators or exploring new territory, flight is an adaptation which enables animals to not only survive, but thrive. In this program, students will explore our galleries and discover how the principles of flight apply to animals as diverse as insects, bats, and birds. In the lab students will handle a wide variety of real specimens to further investigate how certain physical adaptations permit animals to exploit the properties of air for flight.

Curriculum Links: identify and describe the four forces of flight (lift, weight, drag, and thrust); describe ways flying devices or living things use unbalanced forces to control their flight; describe interrelationships within and between species

Maximum 70 people (including students, teachers, educational assistants and supervisors) at one time
