Paul Sereno is coming to the ROM!

Posted: September 14, 2012 - 09:03 , by Patti McCabe

Paul Sereno, one of my FAVOURITE palaeontologists, is coming to @ROMToronto this Sunday and I could not be be MORE excited. Except for maybe those times when I was a kid…

(cue time travel sound effect- swosh swish swash)

When I was a kid I had a pretty strict bed time. For grades 3 through 5, bed time was somewhere around 8-9PM. Very rarely were exceptions made. About the only time I ever remember my mom letting me stay up was for one of my favourite tv shows, Paleoworld.

Meet Catherine Forester, the first speaker in our Dinosaur Hunter SpeakerSeries.

If you thought all dinosaur hunters were men, you’d be wrong. Our first palaeontologist in the Dinosaur Hunters Speaker Series, which starts this Sunday September 9, is Dr. Catherine Forster. She has toughed it out in some of the harshest climates and conditions in the world making significant discoveries in China, Madagascar, and South Africa.

Meet the Ultimate Dino Team: Georgia Guenther

It’s one of the most interesting jobs at the ROM – the museum artist. Working in a studio soaked in natural light, Georgia Guenther creates replicas of objects in the collection and other artistic displays you may see inside the galleries. She works closely with curators to ensure her creations are both scientifically accurate and realistic.

We stopped by the studio to ask Georgia a few questions about her role at the ROM.

Interpretive Planner? What’s that? We caught up with Richard Lahey, ROM Interpretive Planner, to explain his role in the museum world, as well as what he did to help bring the larger-than-life Ultimate Dinosaur exhibition together and some of the interesting things he learned.

Bringing an exhibition to life takes a whole team – especially an exhibition the size and scale of Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants of Gondwana. To help get this ultimate exhibition up and running the ROM brought it contract curator Matthew Vavrek.

Ultimate Dinos Sneak Peek: Dinos in the Big City

Posted: April 11, 2012 - 11:32 , by David Evans

We returned from the field in Patagonia to the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. At about 13 million people in the metro area, BA is the largest city in the country, and third largest in modern Gondwana (behind Sao Paulo and Cairo). There are dinosaurs in Buenos Aires, but only in museums, as the fossils were found in other parts of the country- mostly Patagonia. We spent one day at the Natural Science Museum, or MACN, on the edge of Palermo.
