Spring has sprung at the ROM, and as the season suggests, there are plenty of new things popping up around the Museum.
First, a look back and a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World. Congratulations to Justin Jennings, ROM associate curator for Central and South America, and our partners at the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) for bringing together these never-before-seen artifacts and telling the compelling story of the ancient and modern Maya.
Many lessons were learned from Maya, including that the world will not end December 21 2012! So rather than running for cover, we’ve forged ahead with some exciting spring and summer programs.
Spring Family Weekends
Always keeping families in mind, we’ve launched a new series called Spring Family Weekends, all included with general admission. Get up close and personal with the Dinos; take a giant leap on the moon; celebrate Mothers Day with our Mummies; rock out with reptiles and much more. Check out @ROMKids on twitter as we keep you posted on family to-dos around the Museum.
Friday Night Live @ROM
For a drink at the end of the work week, or a unique stop along the way to your favourite Friday night hotspot, we’ve introduced a new series of events to Toronto – Friday Night Live @ROM. Last week’s launch was a tremendous success and we’re not done yet! Every Friday from now until June 22 join me as we eat, drink, dance and explore the galleries. Follow #FNLROM on twitter, and share your Friday night pics and stories with us @ROMToronto.
Scotibank CONTACT Photography Festival
2012 marks another year in which we have the pleasure of working with the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. This year ICC at the ROM collaborates with CONTACT to present two exciting exhibitions – Elegy: Deborah Samuel and Larry Towell & Donovan Wylie: Afghanistan.
The Museum is buzzing with excitement as we get ready for the launch of the world premier exhibition Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana, presented by Raymond James Ltd. As we near the opening on June 23rd, keep an eye out for behind-the-scenes happenings on our website, and follow the Ultimate Dinos team on Twitter @ROMPalaeo to get up close and personal with this whole new breed of beasts.
We hope you’re as excited about spring at the Museum as we are.
