ROM Volunteer helps children try on armour during March Break 2015

November 5, 2015 marks International Volunteer Managers Day, an annual opportunity to celebrate the dedicated and hardworking staff who mobilize and support volunteers around the world. This year’s theme is “Volunteer Managers: the power behind superhero volunteers.” Indeed, behind every great team of volunteers is a Manager who ensures that they reach their full potential.

The ROM is privileged to have more than 1,300 active volunteers, who work in a diverse range of roles, including curatorial, programming, collections and customer service. This dedicated group provides a significant amount of support, knowledge and passion to the ROM. We simply would not be able to accomplish all that we do without these volunteers. I’m proud that every April, the ROM celebrates National Volunteer Week in their honour.

This year, for the first time, we turn the spotlight to the staff who help make all of this volunteer work possible. Volunteer Managers are essential to the running of our volunteer programs, and are key factors in working with our volunteers to make the ROM what it is today.

I invite you to join me in thanking them today, and in celebrating the power they provide our superhero team of volunteers.
