Turkey: Crossroads of Continents & Cultures

Beginning with Istanbul’s Byzantine and Ottoman treasures, we visit the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and its famous six minarets; St. Sophia Church, the fabulous Topkapi Palace; and the Grand Bazaar’s over 4,000 shops, cafés and tea houses.

We fly to Sanliurfa, city of the Prophets, explore Gobekli Tepe, a newly-discovered Neolithic temple site dating to 9000 BCE; and climb Mount Nemrut, coming face-to-face with gigantic, sculpted heads of gods dating back to the 1st century BCE.

In Cappadocia, we explore the moonscape “fairy chimneys” and Goreme’s UNESCO Open Air Museum, its rock churches and the natural citadel of Uchisar. From Kusadasi on the Aegean Coast, we tour the ancient ruins of Izmir, Miletus and Didyma, completing our journey at the incredible site of Ephesus, a veritable cradle of early Christianity and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
