Sotheby’s 14 May, 2013, Geneva sale of Magnificent and Noble Jewels drew buyers from around the world.  Outstanding pieces from the collection of international screen legend Gina Lollobrigida sold for a combined total of $4,962,122. An exceptional pair of natural pearl and diamond pendant earrings- said to have belonged to the historic collection of the house of Habsburg- which the actress wore on numerous occasions in her career, sold for $2,391,321- an auction record for a pair of natural pearl ear pendants, beating the figure set by Elizabeth Taylor’s earrings in 2011.

Ms Gina Lollobrigida’s collection was the centrepiece of this epic auction which saw nearly 650 lots selling for a combination total of $78,229,556.

Speaker:  Catharine Becket , Vice President, Jewellery Specialist joined Sotheby’s in 2005. She is a GIA certified graduate gemologist and a member of the American Society of Jewellery Historians. She completed her undergraduate degree at Colgate University and received her Masters in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute in London.

The proceeds from the Annual Studies in Silver Lecture benefit the Department of world Cultures (European Section).
