ROMbus: First Peoples in the City

Healing Lodge. Photo courtesy of Kelly Hashemi, Director Native Child Centre.

There would be no better opening for this wonderful and timely trip than a tour of ROM’s own beautiful First Peoples Gallery illustrating the geographical surroundings, the history and cultures of Canada’s aboriginal people. Then, we’ll visit the Native Canadian Centre where young First Nations professionals and elders offer programs and services for many aboriginal people of all ages. Glimpses of paintings of well known native artists might be caught. At our next stop, we’ll discover the spectacular newly repurposed Native Child and Family Centre with its longhouse on the main floor where the child care and nursery school are; and its green roof featuring a sacred herb garden and a healing lodge! After lunch near the lake, we will tour the beautiful Museum of Inuit Art at Harbourfront that will surprise you with the modernity of the work of its artists!
