Face to Face: From fish to pigeons, new models for engagement

Climate change and habitat destruction are just two factors contributing to species extinction. Learn about species that are threatened or have disappeared because of human influence – some of them from our own back yard.

Members only. Registration is required as space is limited.

Join Dave Ireland, Managing Director, for a talk and tour of the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity with a particular emphasis on three exciting new projects that all seek to celebrate and animate the ROM's 100th anniversary.  Dave will speak about the 100,000th lot of fish collected by ROM ichthyologist, and the relevance of our fish collection to academics and planners; he will then briefly describe the concept of de-extinction and the new Passenger Pigeon display; and finally, Dave will share a few Blue Whale stories and show pieces from our own collection, including a Blue whale vertebrae, and several other marine mammal specimens. Dave will also explain why the ROM is conducting BioBlitz's in the City of Toronto, and how this citizen science driven program is set to grow nationally.
