Join us for an exploration of the way we think and feel with objects. Working closely with ROM curatorial staff and selecting objects from our collections, Victoria College in the University of Toronto celebrates the expansion of its program in Material Culture.
Presentations will demonstrate a variety of ways of engaging with objects from across human history and cultures. These objects can take us out of ourselves to learn something about communities distant from our own time and context; they may also help us learn something about ourselves in the here and now.
Presenters include: Riiko Bedford (PhD candidate, History and Philosophy of Science and Technology); Stephen Berquist (PhD candidate, Anthropology, Latin American Studies); Michael Chazan (Professor, Anthropology); John Creese (PhD, Anthropology); Bert Hall (Professor, History, Medieval Studies); Ingrid Hehmeyer (Professor, History of Science and Technology); Ethan Matt Kavaler (Professor, Art Department, Renaissance Studies); Andreas Motsch (Professor, French); Angela Nyamweya (Student, African Studies); Lisa Sherlock (Chief Librarian, Victoria University); Erich Weidenhammer (PhD Candidate, History and Philosophy of Science and Technology).
Master of Ceremonies: Professor Kenneth Bartlett, Renaissance Studies, Victoria College.
