ROM Launches Mobile Giving

Text ROMKIDS to 30333 to send a child to the ROM

This month the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) Governors launch its new Mobile Giving Campaign, a fundraising initiative through mobile phone devices aimed at providing access to the ROM for Toronto children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to visit the Museum. With a text of the phrase ROMKIDS to 30333, a $10 donation allows one child to experience the Museum’s diverse offerings this school year.

“The ROM is committed to making its galleries and programs accessible to all,” said Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, President and Executive Director, ROM Governors. “The ROM is among the first arts and cultural organizations in Ontario to adopt mobile giving. Through this new campaign, making a donation is easier than ever.”

The Mobile Giving Campaign builds on the success of the ROM School Visits Bursary Program, established six years ago. With the generous contributions of its current education partners - HSBC Bank of Canada, Imperial Oil Foundation, Kraft Canada, Ada Slaight and newest supporters Loblaws and KPMG Foundation - students from various disadvantaged communities within the Toronto District School Board have the opportunity to visit the Museum and participate in an educational program free of charge.

Working closely with ROM staff, the Toronto District School Board identifies schools that would benefit from one of the ROM’s diverse educational programs at no cost. The School Visits Bursary Program includes admission, tours of the galleries and interactive activities that correspond to the school’s curriculum. Students also enjoy access to the Museum’s 30,000 square-foot Learning Centre that is used for workshops, demonstrations, and hands-on creative experiences. Since its inception, over 40,000 students and educators have been given free access to the ROM through the School Visits Bursary Program
