Maya Inspires ROM for the Holidays

Two Weeks of Holiday Programming for the Whole Family at New
Lower Admission Prices

This year, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) celebrates two weeks of ROM for the Holidays, from December 26, 2011 to January 8, 2012. Experience activities inspired by the featureexhibition Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World,including interactive programming, hands on activities and entertaining performances, great for the whole family.

Holiday Hours

In addition to our new lower admission prices*, theMuseum will be open until 8:30 pm everyday from December 26, 2011 to January 7, 2011, with a further discount to admission after 4:30 pm. An additional fee applies to see Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World. For full details and to book advance tickets visit www.rom.on.ca/maya.

All ROM for the Holidays programming and activities will take place from 11 am to 4 pm daily, and are included with general admission. The ROM will close at 5:30 pm on Saturday,
December 24 and at 8:30 pm on Saturday, December 31. Last entry to Maya:Secrets of their Ancient World is one and a half hours before the Museum closes. The ROM is closed on Saturday, December 25 and will remain open on Saturday, January 1, 2012.

Maya Inspired Programming

Activities include Maya make-and-take crafts, create your own rain stick, build a Maya Pyramid and a 2012 calendar workshop. Enjoy a chance encounter with a Maya High Priest and pose for a photo as the Jaguar God of the Underworld. From December 28 to 30, the SONY® photo station offers visitors a chance to take away mementos of themselves as the Jaguar God of the Underworld. Snuggle up for a film screening of Mystery of the Maya in the Digital Gallery or embark on a guided tour of the Maya exhibition, happening daily at 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm, for an additional cost of $5.

Additional Programming

Back by popular demand, The Earth Rangers Studio in the Life in Crisis: Schad Gallery of Biodiversity on Level 2 of the Museum will be transformed into an Ontario Winter Wonderland, where visitors can learn to identify animal tracks and discover how Canadian wildlife has learned to adapt to the cold weather.

The Earth Rangers present Bring Back the Wild, a live animal show three times daily at 11:30am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm from Tuesday December 27 to Friday January 6, in the Signy and Cléophee Eaton Theatre on Level B1. See Cosmo the ring-tailed lemur, Sammy the African Serval cat, Timber the Pine Marten, Linus the Harris Hawk and various birds of prey.

ROM for the Holidays Camp

Can’t get enough of our daytime kid’s activities? Experience non-stop fun at the ROM! Children 5 to 14 years of age are invited to spend a week of their winter break with our dynamic instructors to experience hands-on activities in our galleries,studio, and learning labs. Parents can choose from morning and afternoon options or create their own full-day program.

ROM and Maya Sleepover

c5 Restaurant Lounge and Food Studio Café welcomes Chef Corbin Tomaszeski, renowned food expert and television host, who has created menus for a special Maya-themed holiday experience.

Family-friendly Food Studio Caféoffers Maya-themed menu items throughout the exhibition’s engagement and the elegant c5 Restaurant Lounge features a special menu fusing the flavours of Mexico with fresh local Ontario ingredients. c5 Restaurant Lounge, serving thoughtful, elegant world cuisine atop the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, now offers expanded lunch restaurant hours seven days a week, open Monday through Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm, with brunch offerings on Saturday and Sunday.

Holidays Shopping

The ROM invites shoppers to discover exquisite Mayan inspired souvenirs, home décor, and jewellery. These unique wares are available in the exhibition’s special boutique and the
ROM Museum Store. The official exhibition guide, available in both English and French will be available for just $5. The full colour publication includes over $20 in coupons for ROM shopping and dining.
