Family Day Weekend at the ROM 2011

African Adventure!

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) invites you to celebrate a remarkable Family Day Weekend this year from February 19 to 21 with an African Adventure theme, offering something special for all ages! The weekend features a scavenger hunt through Africa’s rich culture and heritage, with music performances, films, drumming workshops and family tours of the ROM's exhibition El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote to You about Africa. Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to see the world premiere retrospective exhibition of Africa’s most famous contemporary artists before it leaves the ROM!

Visit the Museum Secrets Revealed exhibition and discover six of the ROM's most mysterious, rarely seen objects. This “by popular demand” Out of the Vaults exhibition is based on the hit History Television series Museum Secrets. Explore the hidden treasures and meet the ROM experts in person on the floor available for Q&As!

Film screenings of Gabon: The Last Eden will be featured every hour from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. This stunning National Geographic Television documentary of the struggles of park rangers and conservationists to preserve forests and wildlife in what might be the last untouched paradise on earth, Gabon in west central Africa, is narrated by Glenn Close.

Ward of those winter blues and dance to the beat of Guinea, West Africa with performances by Alpha Rhythm Roots every day at 2 pm! Founding member Alpha along with percussionists Derek Thorne and Walter McLean will beat out the rhythms of Guinea performing on traditional Djembe and Doundoumba drums.
