Dr. Jane Goodall to speak at Royal Ontario Museum on call to action for future of the planet

Making a Difference: An Evening with Dr. Jane Goodall;Tuesday,
September 25, 2012

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and the Jane Goodall Institute of
Canada (JGI) present a rare opportunity to spend the evening with
world-renowned primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace, Dr.
Jane Goodall,
as she discusses her hope for the future of the
planet. Making a Difference: an Evening with Dr. Jane
Goodall
takes place on Tuesday, September 25,
2012.

Dr. Goodall will reflect on the remarkable insights her research
has offered into our closest animal relatives, and the extraordinary
change the world has seen since 1960 when she first began her
chimpanzee research in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. Dr.
Goodall will also discuss current threats facing the planet and her
outlook for hope in these complex times, encouraging people to do
their part to make the world a better place for people, animals, and
the environment.

“The ROM is excited to partner with the Jane Goodal Institute of
Canada to host Dr. Goodall as she presents this important lecture,”
said Dave Ireland, Managing Director of Biodiversity Programs for the
ROM. “As Canada’s largest field research museum, we understand that
stories about discovery and adventure can be a powerful and positive
influence on people of all ages. We’re thrilled to further explore
how JGI Canada and the ROM can work together to effect change. ”

“Dr. Goodall’s research into the behaviour of chimpanzees showed
us how closely related we are to the rest of the animal kingdom, and
fundamentally changed our understanding of what it means to be human.
These extraordinary insights have much to teach us about how we can
live in harmony with nature and ensure a future for the planet that
includes all living things,” said Jane Lawton, Chief Executive
Officer, the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada. “We are delighted to be
working with the ROM again to bring Dr. Goodall’s messages of hope to
the people of Toronto.”

The lecture will take place from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm and will
include a post-lecture book-signing. Guests can also register to
attend a pre-talk reception from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, which includes
cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with Dr. Goodall.
