Three new exhibitions in September!

Green Porno: Scandalous Sea
Featuring Isabella Rossellini

In partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival: Future Projections, the ICC presents the world premiere of Green Porno: Scandalous Sea, a series of short, humourous and scientifically accurate films written and starring Isabella Rossellini.

These films portraying of the reproductive habits and challenges of marine life will be screened in the Spirit House of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, and will be complemented by the props featured in the films. This installation will open on September 10, 2009 and will run until September 20, 2009.

Portraits by Nigel Dickson

If the close of TIFF leaves you wanting more celebrity exposure, head to level 2 for
Canadian Content: Portraits by Nigel Dickson.
This exhibit presents a remarkable selection of arresting, insightful and witty photographs of famous Canadians by the incomparable Nigel Dickson.

The exhibit, open September 19, 2009 to March 21, 2010, includes portraits of such luminaries as Margaret Atwood, Jean Chretien, Doug Gilmour and Oscar Peterson, among many others.

Vanity Fair Portraits:
Photographs 1913 - 2008
Presented by the Bay

The Film Festival may be over by September 26th, but the real celebrities will be at the ROM as the ICC unveils Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs, 1913-2008, open from September 26, 2009 to January 3, 2010. This star-studded tribute to the iconic publication showcases more than 140 portraits, including classic images from Vanity Fair’s early period and contemporary photographs from the modern era. A collaboration between Vanity Fair and the National Portrait Gallery, London this exhibit will be displayed in the Roloff Beny Gallery on Level 4 of the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal.

Celebrated American writer and publishing magnate Lewis Lapham will present a talk entitled ‘Celebrity in Contemporary Culture.’ This lecture is part of the programming series, The Question of Celebrity, associated with Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913 – 2008. This event is free.

Facing the Lens, Seeing the Light: Observations on Portrait Photography

Meet the artist El Anatsui
September 30 at the AGO

The ICC co-presents an illustrated talk with the AGO by famed Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui. His amazing metal-cloth series and important sculptures in wood, ceramic and mixed media will be part of his first-ever career retrospective, which will have its world premiere in October 2010 at the ROM.
