M.Sc., Zoology, University of Regina, 1981
Ross MacCulloch joined the ROM as Assistant Curator of Herpetology in 1982. He is responsible for organization of the herpetology collection and computerization of the associated data.
In 2002, Ross managed the move of the collection to its new home at the ROM’s Oakville facility. The collection is worldwide in scope, with strengths in the herpetofauna of Southeast Asia, northern South America, southwestern USA/northwestern Mexico, the Caucasus region and Australia, in addition to an extensive collection of Canadian specimens, with emphasis on Ontario. The ROM’s collections are included in HerpNet and in the Ontario Herpetofaunal Summary. Ross drew extensively on the collections from Ontario for the production of the ROM Field Guide to Amphibians and Reptiles of Ontario, the definitive guide to Ontario herpetofauna.
Ross has collected in Peru, Australia, Jamaica, Mexico and Guyana, as well as in Canada. His recent research has concentrated on the herpetofauna of northern South America, especially Guyana. Details of these expeditions can be found in his related publications and research page – Amphibians and Reptiles of Guyana.
